| Jacobi Medical Center
Bronx, New York RGR worked with by Perkins Eastman and Jacobi Medical Center (JMC), a member hospital of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, to develop an overall landscape improvement plan for the 35-acre JMC campus. The project included a planning study, environmental assessment, preliminary design, and construction documents for improved transit accessibility and pedestrian circulation, as well as other site and landscape enhancements. A $1.8M federal grant financed the accessibility improvements, which had to be developed in conformance with the funding requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act. The overall $5M project included new sidewalks and pedestrian crosswalks; new site lighting; parking lot improvements, including planted medians and walkways; drainage improvements; redesign of major building entry areas, including the main entry courtyard on Pelham Parkway; and new plantings of shade trees, flowering trees, shrubs, and perennials throughout the campus. The drainage improvements included bio-retention swales and storm water retention and infiltration areas to minimize erosion and reduce the amount of surface runoff entering the city storm sewer system. |
